Important Fire Safety Guidelines for Outdoor Grill Use at Grand Venezia

Dear Grand Venezia Community Members,

Please take a moment to review the following important safety guidelines that are enforced statewide under the State of Florida Fire Code. These rules are mandatory on Grand Venezia property to ensure the safety of our community and protect our residents year-round.

Outdoor Grill Use & Fire Safety
We encourage residents to enjoy our outdoor grills responsibly. However, please adhere to the following Florida Fire Code requirements regarding grill use and storage:

Cooking on Balconies

  • No Gas Grills on Balconies:
The Florida Fire Prevention Code strictly prohibits the use of gas grills on the balconies of apartments or condominiums. This is to reduce the risk of fire and ensure safe cooking practices.

Storage of Grills on Balconies

  • No Cooking Devices Stored on Balconies:
The Code also prohibits storing any cooking devices, including grills, on balconies.

Storage of LP Gas or Gas Grills

  • Limitations on LP Gas Storage:
The Code prohibits the storage or use of LP gas in quantities greater than 2-1/2 pound tanks above the first floor. LP gas grills or cylinders should not be stored on balconies or inside residential units if located above the first floor.

Specific Code Sections Include:

  • NFPA 1:10.11.6.1:
For other than one- and two-family dwellings, no hibachi, grill, or other similar cooking or heating devices shall be used or kindled on any balcony, under any overhanging portion, or within 10 ft (3 m) of any structure.
  • NFPA 1:10.11.6.2:
For other than one- and two-family dwellings, no hibachi, grill, or similar cooking devices shall be stored on a balcony.
  • NFPA 1:69.5.3.5:
Storage of cylinders within a residential building, including in basements or common storage areas, shall be limited to cylinders with a maximum water capacity of 2.7 lb (1.2 kg) each and must not exceed an aggregate water capacity of 5.4 lb (2.4 kg) per living space unit.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines. These regulations are in place to ensure that our property remains safe and that our residents enjoy a secure environment. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact the Grand Venezia Board.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and harmonious community.
